Abstract: This paper discusses the possibility of earthquake prediction by observing and monitoring the temperature of the active faults. This is mainly based on the idea that when any mass is compressed the energy restored in the particles will be released on the form of heat. In order to confirm this idea, unconfined compressiont tests were performed with the surface temperature of all the specimens measured. Investigation of this idea was done by using the concept of thermal theory.
