Abstract: In existing general-purpose softwares using the finite element method, it is difficult to consider the effect of a sag, support movement and parametric vibrations of the cable, in the vibration analysis and seismic analysis of cable structures, such as suspension bridges and cable-stayed bridges. In this paper, the stiffness matrix considering the geometric stiffness of the cable is derived. Furthermore, the linear and nonlinear vibration analysis of single cables and cable structures are carried out by using the derived stiffness matrix. Accuracy effectiveness of the solution are confirmed.
