Abstract: Volcanic eruption of Mt. Fugen in Unzen stopped after five year's activity. In Heisei 6 and afterwards, there is no damage by the debris flow or the pyroclastic flow, and construction of the disaster prevention facility for safe reservation is going in Shimabara area smoothly. Thus, the safety of the Shimabara area is increasing. However, improvement of living environment and neighborhood planning are also left behind now. Moreover, a lot of earth and sand have accumulated on the hillside in Mt. Fugen, and the danger of generating of a debris flow is high. Furthermore, fear of crash of the lava dome by the big earthquake also remains. Thus, in Shimabara area, since the risk which a calamity continues to generate is high, it is necessary to also maintain the preparation to the calamity of the information gathering accumulated at the time of the eruption, communication of information, awareness of disaster prevention, a voluntary organization for disaster prevention, etc. from now on. Then, this paper carries out the intention of the citizen of Fukae Town about improvement of living environment, neighborhood planning, the common knowledge situation of the measure against refuge at the time of a calamity, and disaster prevention city planning by the questionnaire. Furthermore, the result of investigation is compared with the results of investigations under continuation of the eruption and immediately after the eruption end and the result of investigation of Shimabara City.
