Abstract: The accuracy of a new straight beam element proposed by the author is examined for the analysis of elastoplastic cycric behavior of concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns. A plastic hinge type formulation is employed combining the 'modified incremental stiffness method', the updated Lagrangian formulation and numerical integration about the end sections of the element. The stress-strain relation of concrete fiber is modeled as the elastic-perfectly plastic type model considering the confinement effect of steel tube. Comparisons with test results show that the beam element has a sufficient accuracy for the cyclic analysis of CFT columns.
