Abstract: The author has studied some diagonal beddings of the Paleogene sediments distributing at Tsuyazaki and in the Wakamatsu-Ashiya area of northeastern Kyushu. The orientation of the diagonal bedding has been measured mainly on the strata of the planar type. The transport directions estimated from the diagonal beddings in the A Member of the IInd Sub formation show the influence from the eastern or northeastern upheaval zone which consists of mostly the Shimonoseki Subgroup, rhyolitic or quartz-andesitic clastic rocks etc. The diagonal beddings of the B Member of the IInd Sub formation, the IIIrd Sub formation, and the B Member of the IVth Sub formation indicate the transport direction of clastics from the southwestern upheaval zone. In the Wakamatsu-Ashiya area, the diagonal beddings of massive sandstones (nos. 2, 4. and 8) show diverse directions of water current. The transport direction of sediments decided from the diagonal beddings of the Waita Formation (nos. 5, 6, and 7) is southeast. This direction is not different in east and west sides of the syncline axis.
