Abstract: It's been reported that the post-impact velocity of ball hit by metal bat higher than that hit by wooden bat. The post-impact velocity of the ball is determined by the coefficient of restitution and pre-impact momentum of the bat. In this study, the coefficient of restitution of bat and ball and pre-impact momentum of the bat are measured. The results are foollows, 1) Coefficient of restitution of metal bat are slightly higher than that of wooden bat. And the range which the coefficient of restitution is relatively high is more wide in metal bat. 2) The pre-impact velocity of wooden bat is greater than that of metal bat. But momentum is slightly lesser. 3) The post-impact velocity of the ball was calculated using the laboratory data. The resuits are 48.3m/sec. in metal bat and 46.9m/sec. in wooden bat. These values are greater than Bryant's field test.
