Title:
Other Titles: Cannonball at Ohato, Nagasaki
Issue Date: 20-Jun-2008
This is the cannonball in #5117 shown at a different angle. It is said that this cannonball was cast in 1638 by Kanaya Suke'emon Kunihisa, founder of Kajiya-machi, for use against Hara Castle during the Shimabara Rebellion. As it turned out it never left Nagasaki and was placed at Ohato. Preserved at present in a small park near the ferry terminal, it is called one of the seven wonders of Nagasaki: "There is a cannonball, but no cannon." The houses and the cart in the background are interesting as well.
