Title:
Other Titles: A view of Koshu Hachiman Shrine, Moji
Issue Date: 20-Jun-2008
It is reported that Dazai Daini Kiyohara Masahito Kinjo built Hachiman Shrine, at the order of Emperor Seiwa in 860, as a branch of Usajingu Shrine. It enshrines the local god of six regions in Moji. Although the Romon gate seen in the photo was built in 1907, it was lost in a fire during the war in 1945. Judging form the condition of the torii gate, this photo was taken sometime between the end of the Meiji and the beginning of the Taisho Periods.
