Abstract: There are many researching methods on the fatigue damage. Among them, the method of double stress levels is the most famous one and has brought many results about various materials, dimensions and heat-treaments. In this paper, the authors apply the torsional stress, as the special case of combined stress (ratio of principal stress is -1), and research whether the fatigue damage under its double stress levels follows the Miner's straight damage law or not. The results of the experiment indicate to satisfy the law on both cases of the high stress changing down to the low stress and the low up to the high, if it is taken the stress repetitions to initiate the crack having O.1mm length as the standard life, instead of the stress repetitions to fracture. According to ratio of stress repetitions to its fatigue life, crack initiation under the high stress level develops earlier than under the low stress level, but the life of its propagation is shorter life than the later.
