抄録: In the range where the narrow bearing areas have to bear a higher load such as at gear surface or at rolling beadng surfaces we must find out a suitable way to prevent some failures due to friction since it is quite difficult to keep the perfect hydrodynamic lubrication which is of course reasonable as lubrication. Generally, in the range out of limit of hydrodynamic lubrlcation we usually make an attempt to have the lubrication by the thin film composed of a few molecular layers known as boundary lubrication. However, in the case the rubbing surfaces are exposed to themselves to the extreme high contact pressure we have to consider about the behaviour of a lubricant under high pressure beside the temperature rising due to higher pV-value (p and V show a contact pressure and a rubbing velocity respectively). Namely, a few concern on an elastohydrodynamic lubrication range where a lubricaton condition can be kept without a breakdown of the oil film in spite of an elastic deformation under high pressure become important for understanding the phenomena. It has not been made clear yet how much an elastohydrodynamic lubrication range could be occupied in the boundary lubrlcation which is a range outside the hydrodynamic lubrIcation. In the present paper we have reported a few experimental results which have been got by the SODA-type 4-Balls Tester on a few mineral oils including plant oil, consequently we have indlcated a boundary lubrication occupied with an elastohydrodynamic lubrication and that the extents are not so slight.
