Abstract: This paper presents the steady-state and transient analysis of a dc series motor controlled by a GTO chopper. The main problem in the analysis of the chopper-fed dc series motor arises due to the nonlinear relation between the electromagnetic torque and armature current. Accurate solution of the nonlinear differential equations can only obtain numerically by the use of considerable computation time. The steady-state periodical solution is calculated by applying Newton's method. It requires much less computation time. And the system is expressed as a linear sampled-data model around a steady-state equilibrium state. The stability of this system and transient responses are studied by applying this model. A comparison between the transient responses computed by the computer simulation and those predicted by the linear model is made.
