Abstract: This paper remotely measured sea surface temperature in the Tsushima Eastern Channel and environs based on satellite data. Remote sensing data used for analysis were obtained with the AVHRR sensor on board NOAA-9 on July 15, 1985. Digital analysis of these AVHRR data yields a sea surface temperature map which shows the Tsushima Current flowing into Japan Sea through the Tsushima Eastern Channel. Comparison was also made between sea surface temperature estimated from A VHRR data and the vertical water temperature distribution measured directly, and the result clarifies the presence of a cold water region at the east off the Tsushima Island.
