Abstract: This paper presents a procedure for calculating the covariance of deformations and internal forces of a compresed column subjected with a random initial deflection. The initial deflection is modeled by the consept of spatial shaping filter. We derived a covariance equation which governs the spatial variation of the covariance response, and the equation is solved by the method of stochastic transfer matrix method. Analytical examples are shown for the column whose initial deflection idearized a stationary white noise random fields and a nonstationary random fields with correlations in space.
