抄録: Soft alluvial clay deposits, unable to insure traficability, are very popular in Japan. Earth covering method with sheet or net has been developed from 1966 to 1967 in Japan for the security of traficability. Recently, the earth covering excution with geotextiles has gradually increased. However, a rational design for the earth covering method with the reinforced materials, has not been established, because of the variation of the ground condition, the tensile stress within the geotextiles and the thickness of covering layer according with excution procedure. First, this paper proposes a reasonable design for the earth covering method reinforced with geotextiles, integrating the past investigations. Secondaly, the paper proposes a new analytical procedure for the judgement of the effectiveness of geotextiles as the reinfoced materials, and for the establishment of a new design in the near future. The proposed finite element technique is consisted of rational modelings for soil, geotextile and the interaction between those materiales. Each modeling is as follows. 1) Soil model is the elasto-viscop1astic model proposed by Sekiguchi and Ohta. 2) Geotextile model is a plane truss element with pin connections. 3) Interaction model is a Goodman's joint element considering a deformation dependancy of pull-out resistance. From the comparison between the calculated and the observed values for the model experiments carried out by Yasuhara and Hirao, the availability of the proposed technique has been shown.
