抄録: With the recent increase in the extension of a traffic network and plus difficulties in obtaining suitable sites, road construction work has often encountered soft ground. Therefore, lateral movement of the bridge substructure; i.e. pier and abutment, due to the partial load with rear filling work becomes remarkable. However, a rational estimation of lateral flow and pressure working on the substructure has not been prepared for the design of the bridge substructure. This paper commences by comparing the observed behavior of model pier and the calculated behavior of a stress-coupling finite element analysis adopting an elasto-viscoplastic model as soft ground. Secondly, the demanded parameters to estimate their behavior are determined so as to minimize the discrepancies in the estimation. Using these parameters a prediction model is constructed, and the numerical simulation are carried out according to some varying factors affecting lateral pressure. Finally, from the results of the numerical simulation, the paper proposes simple estimation formulae of the lateral flow, pressure and its profile on the substructure.
