Abstract: This paper investigates the interdependence of wages among labor unions in an open economy where tradable goods and non-tradable goods are produced. In sharp contrast with most of previous studies on this subject, the present study deals with an open economy and does not assume that utility of labor unions or production of firms depends on relative wages among unions. We are going to show that the wage reaction functions of tradable goods sector and that of non-tradable goods sector are asymmetric. It is also demonstrated that employment levels of both sectors in the Cournot equilibrium are likely to be reduced by increases in lump-sum taxes and employment subsidies.
