Abstract: In consumer shopping trip to department stores, empirical evidence suggests that consumers often visit two or more department stores in each shopping trip. In other words, consumers do multistop shopping trip to department stores. However, conventional consumer spatial behavior research typically assumes that consumers visit only one shopping destination in each shopping trip. Little attention has been paid to the multistop shopping trip. In this paper, first, we confirm the situation of the multistop shopping trip to department stores using the empirical data, and investigate the reason why consumers do the multistop shopping trip. Next, based on empirical result that in many cases two department stores are visited by duplication, we examine the duplication model for estimating the rate of the overlap in the consumers of two department stores.
