Abstract: General performance of desalination plant with reverse osmosis modules are varied with their running conditions and kind of material of their filter system of sea water. A series of experiments, associated with amount and quarity of desalinated water producted from a plant (7m³/day) of the filter system and various chemical materials to refresh the module from May 1982 to Dec 1988, on board the Kakuyo-Maru. The experiments are devided into three parts; i) at changing pressure or ii) density of inlet water and on two kinds of filter systems. From these experiments some results are obtained: i) The desalinated water is increased in amount with inlet pressure of water and filtering performance of the module can be elongated in hour at a constant pressure of inlet water. Some formulae among amount converted as 25℃ of desalinated water, Q₂₅ in unit of m³/day, water pressure. P in kg/cm², and temperature of inlet sea water, Ts are: Experiment-1 (Exp-1): salinity of sea water, 34.589‰ Q₂₅=0.3698・P-0.1441・Ts-4.5846 (r mult=0.7186) Experiment-2 (Exp-2): salinity of sea water, 33.823‰ Q₂₅=0.9420・P-0.1877・Ts-34.8331 (r mult=0.9509) Experiment-3 (Exp-3): salinity of sea water, 35.000‰ Q₂₅=0.3085・P-0.1219• Ts-3.2438 (r mult=0.8446) ii) The performance of module greatly affects from the ability of filters themselves. iii) A way to wash the module by chemical solusions, particularly, citric acid, is highly effective to refresh it filtering performance.
