Abstract: The thalli of Porphyra suborbiculata, P. dentata and P. suborbiculata f. latifolia from the field and P. yezoensis cultured in laboratory were fixd every 2 hours during a 24-h period, and then the rates of nuclear division in vegetative cells of the thalli were investigated. Materials were fixed with acetic alcohol (1:3) and stained by Wittmanns aceto-iron-haematoxylin-chloral hydrate method. The thalli were cultured in 200ml flasks aerated by an air pump and kept in a 12:12 light and dark photoperiod with 6,000 lux by white fluorescent light and at 18℃. The culture solution used was PES medium and it was changed every 2 days. The cultured thalli were fixed after 3-5 days under experimental conditions. The periodicity of nuclear and cell division in Porphyra thalli was distinctly recognized in both materials from the field and culture. Nuclear divisions were usually started at 14:00h and most abundant from 16:00h to 18:00h, and finished at midnight. On the other hand, nuclear divisions in sexual cells, antheridium and cystcarp, occurred continously during light and dark periods. Nuclear divisions in the thallus under continous light also did not showed diurnal rhythm. Occurrence times of each phase in nuclear division suggests that mitotic time of Porphyra thallus may be about 2 hours. In thalli cultured under unfavourable conditions resulting from unfitness of environmental factors, such as emersion, temperature, light intensity and salinity, nuclear divisions were slightly delayed and their rates reduced. / 1.海で自生したマルバアマノリ・ヒロハマルバアマノリ・オニアマノリの採集直後の葉体,および数日間培養したスサビノリの葉体を,2時間おきに固定,染色して調べたところ,核分裂には明らかな光周性がみられた. 2.アマノリ類の核分裂は,明期後半の14時ごろより始まり,そのピークは16時,18時にあらわれ,夜半までには終了した.しかし,連続光下で培養したものでは,核分裂は終日行なわれた. 3.スサビノリの核分裂の所要時間は18℃で約2時間で,分裂の前期・終期が長く中期・後期が短いと推測された. 4.スサビノリの嚢果・造精器などの生殖細胞の核分裂は常時進行し,周期性はみられなかった. 5.干出・照度・温度・塩分などの生長に不適な条件下で培養した場合,核分裂の時刻がやや遅れ,分裂率も低下した. 6.核分裂率と生長とには深い相関がみられ,核分裂率を測定することにより環境条件の生長に及ぼす影響の程度を判定できると考えられる.
