Abstract: In the Conchocelis culture, several diseases have been reported and countermeasures for the diseases have been studied by many investigators. Recently, a new disease of cultural Conchocelis occurred at some Porphyra cultural stations in Kyusyu and at our laboratory. The author studied the symptom and pathogen of this disease and tried to find the preventive measure of the disease. When the shell-living Conchocelis thalli are affected with this disease, they grow to yellowish green. Many thalli of Chytridium sp., aquatic fungus, were observed on the shell-living Conchocelis. This fungus is epibiotic and having the vegetative system: Sporangium is spherical, subspherical or ellipsoidal, measuring 8~25μ in diameter, and forming 16~128 zoospores: Zoospore is ovoid, measuring 2~3μ in diameter, having a posterior flagellum and a single globule, and it is released from the dehiscence of the operculum. The infection of this fungus is seriously injurious to the cultural Conchocelis at the temperature of 15~20℃ and under the lower light intensity of 100~500 lux.
