Abstract: The motion of a small boat in high sea is affected in relatively higher degrees than the case of a larger ship by the specific characters of the sea wave, i. e., the wave length and height. A series of field measurements of the rolling and pitching motions caused by the sea wave which is of great interest to small boats, were carried out at a speed of 4 m/sec on board the R/V Kakusui, 20 GT, of this faculty in the adjacent waters off Iwo-Jima on June 30th 1970. The sea condition during the measurements was very moderate with slight swell and the wind force of 4.5 m/sec. The rolling and pitching amplitudes of the boat were simultaneously measured by means of a vertical-gyro (TRB-8B) on the various courses toward the wave direction, i. e., 0°,45°,90°,135°,180°,225°,270°and 315°respectively, and were continuously recorded on a pen-oscillograph. Some statistic considerations were given to the observed data by the time series analysis methods and are briefly described in this paper. Several substantial results are: 1) The amplitude frequencies of the rolling and pitching were both approximated to the gaussian distribution. 2) The maximum rolling amplitude was observed at the relative direction of 135° and 225° toward the wave direction, at stern quarter of the boat. 3) The relative directional fluctuations of the rolling and pitching may show a symmetrical distribution against the wave direction 4) The mean values of the amplitude and period were determined from the power spectra of the rolling and pitching as shown in Table 2. / 供試船"鶴水"の海洋波中における船体運動の統計的特性を調べた結果は次の通りである。1) rollingおよびpitchingの振幅の分布は正規分布であった。2) 波浪の進行方向と船の針路が船首尾線に対して対称な相対針路,すなわち45度対315度,90度対270度,および135度対225度の動揺は周期,振幅,減衰状況等ほぼ相似の傾向を示す。3) 船体運動の最も激しい相対針路は135度と225度であり,最も小さいのは45度と315度である。4) その他,船体運動の平均値,最大期待値等を推定し,その結果をTable 2に示した。
