抄録: Five adults of the clingfish, Lepadichthys frenatus WAITE consisting of two females and three males were collected from the tide pools on the rocky shore of Nomozaki near Nagasaki (Lat. 32°35.3'N, Long. 129°45.5'E). They were fed with mosquito larvae, mysises and brine shrimp and kept for spawning experiment in a flat plastic aquarium during the period from March 29 to September 19, 1971. A couple, male being 58.2mm and female 58.3mm in total length, spawned in the nest of a Pecten shell set at the aquarium bottom. The spawned eggs were deposited on the inner side of the shell in one layer and they were guarded by the male parent. The egg mass consisted of two egg groups in different developmental stages. One group of 240 eggs was in the morula stage and the other of 301 eggs in the advanced stage. The egg are flat ellipsoid in shape, being 1.31 to 1.36mm in long axis and 1.01 to 1.05mm in short axis, and each provided with an adhesive pedestal at the bottom side. It took 142 to 194 hours for the development of eggs from the morula stage to the hatching at the water temperature changing from 24.0° to 26.0℃. The newly hatched larva is 4.20mm in total length, and it is provided with large eyes, a remnant of yolk, 36 or 37 myomeres, a small air bladder and characteristic disposition of melanophores and xanthophores on the body.
