Abstract: In 1960, ARASAKI reported on Olpidiopsis sp., a species of marine Phycomycetes, parasitizing in leafy thalli of Porphyra, and he called the injury of Porphyra by this parasite as " chytrid disease. " Since then, no other record on this disease of Porphyra has been seen in Japan for a long time. The present writer found many Olpidiopsis cells in Porphyra thalli injured by " white rot" in Ariake Sea during the culture period of 1967, and then studied on the morphologial and ecological aspects of them. Olpidiopsis sp., parasitizing in porphyra, is endobiotic, holocarpic, and developing sporangium itself: Sporangium is spherical or ellipsoidal measuring 6~20μ in diameter, with 1 or 2 discharge tubes and forming 64~128 zoospores: Zoospore is ovoid or ellipsoidal measuring 2.5~3.5μ in length, and has two unequal flagella. This aquatic fungus grows at the temperature of 5~30℃, with optimum growth at ca. 15~20℃, and is able to live equally in dilute and brine sea water as well as in normal sea water. This species in host algae is also remarkably resistant to desiccation in air. According to the observations in the field, this fungus infection is seriously injurious to the sporlings and young thalli of Porphyra, and also to adult thalli. The disease of culture Porphyra which is so-called " white rot", seems to be caused partly by Olpidiopsis infection. / 有明海で発生した養殖ノリの白くされ症状を調査中,壷状菌の寄生が多数みられたので,その形態や寄生生態について観察し,併せて壷状菌病の被害について考察した.1)養殖ノリに寄生する壷状菌は,宿主1個細胞に1~2個まれに数個寄生し,内部寄生で菌体がそのまゝ遊走子嚢に発育する.遊走子は外部に伸出した放出口を通し脱出し,不等長の2鞭毛を腹生し,着生後発芽管を伸ばして宿主細胞に貫入する.2)以上の特徴から,本菌はLagenidiales のOlpidiopsis spとみなされる.3)本菌は葉体のほか果胞子に寄生したり,遊走子を経てノリの無基質糸状体の枝や殻胞子嚢にも寄生を繰返す。4)本菌の生態について,詳細には調査できなかったが,その生育適温は約15~20℃で,塩分農度や乾燥に対し強い抵抗陸を示した.5)本菌は1967,1968年度ともに有明海で多くみられたが,全国的にも広く分布している.6)ノリの幼芽や幼葉に寄生し大きい被害を与えるが,成葉てもこの寄生が多いと葉先より流失する.7)壷状菌を各種核染色法て染色すると,菌体か濃く染まりまた多核であるので,その検出が容易である.
