抄録: When a ship keeps anchoring in strong wind beyond the holding power of the anchor and anchor chain, she must be given a thrust by using the engine to keep the tension of the anchor and anchor chain caused by the wind pressure power within the holding power of the anchor and anchor chain. The author studied, with the data obtained from the past experiences of "Nagasaki-maru" in anchoring in strong wind, the relation between the thrust of "Nagasaki-maru" and the velocity of the wind, and the results of the study are as follows. 1. The thrust of "Nagasaki-maru" by using the engine in keeping anchoring in strong wind was represented by the ship's speed after her docking. 2. The relation between the wind pressure upon the ship and the thrust of the ship was studied with the assumption that it would be linear. 3. The ship's speed in keeping anchoring in strong wind on the basis of the maximum momentary velocity of the wind was : V=0.23W-3.64 4. The ship's speed in keeping anchoring in strong wind on the basis of the mean velocity of the wind was : V=0.34W-3.14 5. The above linear equations are considered to be the standards in keeping anchoring under operation of the engine for "Nagasaki-maru" which shows little change in the draft and the trim. 6. The influences of current, tide and wave are included as errors, but in view of the conditions of the experimental anchorage, they are not considered to be significant. / 1. 長崎丸の機関を使用しての荒天守錨時の推力を出渠時の船速で表わした. 2. 船体に受ける風圧力と推力との間に,一次関係が存在するとしてその関係を求めた. 3. 最大瞬間風速を基準としての荒天守錨時の船速はV=0.23W-3.64を得た. 4. 平均風速を基準としての荒天守錨時の船速はV=0.34W'-3.14を得た. 5. 喫水およびトリムにあまり大きな変化を示さない長崎丸には,上記一次式は機関を使用して守錨する際の基準になると考えられる. 6. 海流,潮汐流,および波浪の影響は,誤差として含まれているが,実験地の錨地より考えて大なるものとは思われない.
