Abstract: On the life-cycle of Porphyrct, it is well known that the sporangia are formed on the Conchocelis-phase developed from carpospores, and those spores grow directly into leafy thalli. Many previous investigators considered that the content of each sporangium develops into a single spore designated as the "monospore", but further details concerning the spore-formation do not seem to have been clearly explained. The present work was undertaken to study the formation and liberation of spores in the free- and shell-living Conchocelis of P. yezoensis and P. tenera. The detailed observations were mainly carried on by using the same sporangia of the free-living Conchocelis kept at the low temperature of 20℃. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) During the experiments in summer, when the Conchocelis cultured at the room temperature (27~28℃) was exposed under low temperatures such as 20℃, the sporangia became mature. It is difficult to find morphological differences in the formation of spores among the Conchocelis of P. yezoensis and P. tenera. 2) In the process of spore-formation of the free-living Conchocelis, at first the entire content of each sporangium was divided by longitudinal and transverse septa, and finally it developed into 2~4 or more spores within 3~4 days. 3) On the other hand, in the shell-living Conchocelis, each sporangium was usually divided into 2 spores. 4) The relationship between the division of sporangia and the liberation of spores was shown in Table I, II in both cases of the freeand shell-living Conchocelis. Accordingly, the Conchocelis bearing many divided sporangia discharged numerous spores in a day or two. 5) From the results of these observations, it seems to be doubtful that the spore of Conchocelis has been designated as the "monospore". / 1965年の夏から秋にかけて,おもにスサビノリ・アサクサノリの糸状体で胞子形成の過程を実験的に観察し,次のような結果をえた。1.糸状体の胞子形成にあたり,無基質糸状体では胞子嚢の内容が2~4個あるいはそれ以上に分裂して胞子となり,未分裂のまま胞子となるものは少ない.2.貝殻穿孔糸状体でも多くの胞子嚢は2個に分れて胞子を形成するが,分裂せずに1個の胞子をつくるものも少なくない.3.これらの胞子形成は放出の直前におこなわれ,夏期室温で培養した糸状体を低温に移すと,その翌日には胞子嚢の分裂がはじまり,3~4日後より胞子を放出した.4.胞子嚢細胞の分裂の多少を観察することによって,1~2日後の放出の有無や放出量の概略を予測することができるようである.5.したがって,糸状体の胞子は単胞子とは考えられない.
