抄録: Tomie bay is a shallow, semi-open bay with the inflow of a water mass from the warm Tsushima current. In the study area, the calcareous remains of marine organisms are a major constituent of the sediment. The concentrations of calcium carbonate ranged between 73.5% and 97.3%. Percentages of mud contents were smaller than 36.4%. The sea floor of the outside of the bay and mid bay is covered with muddy sand. Sand lies in areas of the bay's mouth and the interior of bay. The present study ys based on 8 samples collected in the study area. The calcareous sediments were analyzed for aliphatic hydrocarbons (n-alkanes), aliphatic alcohols (n-alcohols), sterols and fatty acids. n-Alkanes exhibit a high odd/even carbon preference which is typical of higher plant waxes. The sand of the bay's mouth and the interior of bay have a higher C17 or C19 which is indicative of the marine autochthonous production. n-Alkanes concentration were lower than those of the muddy sediments from Omura and lmari bays. Humps were foud for all of sediments, and are thought to be derived from petroleum contamination. n-Alcohols ranged from C13 to C28 (even carbon number predominance). The sediments at St. 3~8 exhibit bimodal n-alcohol distributions with one maximun at C22 or C24 which is typical of a higher plant wax and another at C16 which is characteristic of marine authochthonous production. A total of 15 different sterols were identified in concentrations up to 27.3μg/g. The predominant components are 22-ehydrocholesterol, cholesterol, brassicasterol, campesterol, stigmasterol, and β-sitosterol, together they com prise about 80% of the total sterols. Cholesterol is the major component with concentrations up to 47.7% of thee total sterols. Fatty acids are consist of saturated fatty acids, and mono- and poly-unsaturated fatty acids. Saturated fatty acids were the most abundant compounds class, ranging from C12 to C32 with C16:0 as the major component (22.4~118.6μg/g). The poly-unsaturated fatty acids such as C20:3, C20:4, C22:4, C22:5 are chracteristic of many marine production. The presence of these poly-unsaturated compounds implies that the lipids have not undergone extensive degradation or alteration.
