Abstract: The surface wind at the main campus of the Nagasaki University is studied for the purpose of obtaining a deeper understanding of the wind environment. The data used in this study are the hourly wind directions and wind speed of.three years from 1988 to 1990. A brief summary of this investigation can be given as follows. (1) The direction of the prevailing wind is N to NW in winter adn S in summer mainly due to the topolographical condition that the observation site is open to the N-S line. (2) The mean wind speed is strongest in spring (March and April) and weakest in the late autumn (November and December). The strong wind in spring is brought from the storm psssing from west to east. The weak wind condition in autumn is associated with the travelling anticyclone from the continent. (3) The sea wind in daytime sets from S at the early stage and turns from W at the mature stage of early afternoon. On the other hand, the land breeze in night is brought from NE which corresponds to the direction of the upper stream of the Urakami River.
