Abstract: The structures of methane chalcogenol have been analyzed on basis of Cs symmetry by previous workers. 1-15) The obtained vibrational spectra of these substances could not be interpreted on the basis of C3 symmetry, but could be explained according to C3v selection rules.16-18) To make sure it , the Raman and infrared spectra of methanol-d1, -d3,-d4 (CH3OD3, CD3OH, CD3OD) which are structurally similar to methanol are measured. The vibrational spectra can be assigned on the basis of C3v, as expected, by comparison of those of CH3CN and CD3CN with linear C-C≡N skeletons (C3v).
