Abstract: The thermal decomposition of benzaldehyde in the presence of air results in the formation of phenol, benzene and benzoic acid. The influence of the presence of boric anhydride and that of the addition of benzene to benzaldehyde on the thermal decomposition were investigated. The competitive formation between phenol and benzoic acid was observed. The presence of boric anhydride seemed to promote slightly the formation of phenol, and to hindered sparingly the formation of benzoic acid. Beside, the marked increase in the benzoic acid formation and the decrease in the phenol formation were caused by the addition of benzene. / 空気存在下におけるベンズアルデヒドの熱分解反応は,無水ホウ酸によって,フェノールとベンゼンの生成が極く僅かながら促進され,安息香酸の生成が微に抑制されるようであった。また,ベンゼンの介在は,安息香酸の生成を著しく促進し,フェノールの生成を抑制した。
