Abstract: Effect of axial force fluctuation on elasto-plastic behavior of steel piers with cylinder section was investigated by nonlinear finite element analysis. Five structural models with four kinds of axial force fluctuation were analyzed,and their ultimate strength,ductility and energy absorption capability were discussed. As a result,it was found that the axial force fluctuation has relatively high effect only on the ultimate strength and ductility.
