Abstract: This is the text of the Royal ordinance on discipline, subordination and service of Maréchaussées, promulgated on 19th April 1760. We show the French text and Japanese one side by side. The maréchaussée, a mounted police, served both as a royal army, keeping order particulary in the countryside and on highways, and as a royal court (prévôt’s court). In March 1720, the royal government tried to reform the maréchaussée. The second reform began in 1760. The Ordinance enhanced the royal ordinance of 16th March 1720 and stipulated concretely the functions of the mounted police fort the first time as a law concerning the maréchaussée. It means that the functions of the maréchaussée were extensively informed in the Kingdom and that the maréchaussée was better situated in the governmental institution under the French Absolute Monarchy.
