Abstract: The paper reviews the recent progresses and remaining issues on maternal and child health, and provides pathways for further improvements to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in post SDGs era. The paper argues that despite significant progresses have observed in terms of reduction in infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate in recent 20 years, further improvements are pivotal for achieving the goals of SDGs. Evidence-based approaches that have demonstrated significant effects on safe motherhood are important to further reduce preventable deaths in mothers, newborn babies and stillbirths. The paper also paid attention to the other goals that are simultaneously contributes maternal and child care, such as water access, sanitation and hygiene.
