Abstract: Schoolchildren, 8175 boys and 7803 girls, of OKINAWA, aged 5 to 16, were examined for the dermatophytosis from April to June, 1967, and the distribution of each type of dermatophytosis and its causative fungi were compared with those of KYUSYU. The result was summarized in Table 2 and 3. The distribution of diseases did not differ from those reported in KYUSYU. Specimens taken from all patients were cultured on Sabouraud's glucose slants and 4 species of dermatophytes, Trichophyton violaceum, T. ferrugineum, T. rubrum and Microsporum gypseum, were obtained. From Tinea capitis 2 species of trichophyton, 6 strains of T. violaceum and 3 T. ferrugineum, were isolated. In KYUSYU, Tinea capitis in schoolchildren were mainly caused by T. ferrugineum, whereas in NANSEI Is., including OKINAWA, the high incidence of T. violaceum had been noted as a causative fungi of Tinea capitis, and it was also confirmed in our investigation (Table 4 and 5).
