Abstract: Homology among 5 strains of Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus isolated in Japan and China between 1935 and 1982 was compared by nucleotide sequence of genomic RNAs and deduced amino acid sequences of viral proteins. Both homologies were significantly high (more than 93%) all over the entire genome. The result indicated relative homogeneity of JE virus genome and the homology percentage over 93% as an indicator for the same viral species.
