Abstract: In order to confirm the validity of an analytical model based on the simple integral equation which was previously presented by one of the authors for PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate) mass loss rate, a direct numerical method for the PDE (Partial Differential Equation) is presented. Formulationg the process of the one-dimensional transient gasification of a noncharring thermoplastic material by the PDE, we analyzed the gasification proess subjected to the incident heat flux by a full finite difference method as well as a simplified finite difference method where the non-linear acceleration term was neglected. As a result, it proved that the mass loss rate obtained from the simplified numerical method corresponds to that of the direct full numerical method after an adequate pyrolysis time elapses.
