Abstract: Influences of the initial profile and the boundary conditions on nonlinear vibrations of an arch with small rise are discussed in the present paper. The equation of motion is solved by a Galerkin method and the harmonic balance method. From numerical results, the following conclusions are obtained. The influence of the initial profile on nonlinear vibrations is small. However, linear free vibrations, nonlinear free vibrations and forced vibrations are influenced by the difference of the boundary conditions.
