Abstract: The film boiling heat transfer from a vertical cylinder with horizontal bottom surface to saturated liquids was analyzed. For the heat transfer on the vertical lateral surface Bromley's solution was modified to accommodate the continuity of vapor mass flow rate around the lower corner of the vertical cylinder. The thickness of the vapor film covering the vertical lateral surafce of the cylinder was increased owing to the inflow of vapor generated under the horizontal bottom surafce and resulted in a reduction in the heat transer rate of the vertical lateral surafce.
