Abstract: In this report, the work shape is given by a set of discrete coordinate values. The work shape is supposed as a polyhedron constructed by many sides connecting adjacent discrete points with lines. Two calculation processes are shown in this report. One is the forward process to calculate the tool path to cut accurately the required work shape (polyhedron). The other is the backward process to calculate the work shape to be cut using the tool path obtained in the forward process. The difference between the work shape given in the forward process and the work shape calculated in the backward process is named round trip error. The information about gradient of contact plane on the work and the tool path surface should be utilized so that the round trip error becomes nearly zero. The optimum utilization of the gradient information about the work and the tool path is shown evaluating the round trip error.
