Abstract: The effect of liquid subcooling on the film boiling heat transfer from a vertical finite-length silver cylinder was investigated experimentally for water at atmospheric pressure. The experiments have been carried out by a transient method, i. e., quenching method. The diameter and length of the cylinder used in the experiment are, respectively, 45mm and 45mm. The liquid subcooling was varied from 2 to 20K. As a result, the average heat flux increases with an increase in liquid subcooling. The film boiling heat transfer was enhanced by 15 to 220% with an increase in liquid subcooling. The minimum heat flux increases linearly with liquid subcooling.
