Abstract: In this report, the work shape is supposed as a polyhedron constructed by many sides connecting adjacent discrete points with lines. The way to decide tool posture and the formula to calculate tool path are discussed for the work shape requiring 4-axis control machining. The method to calculate tool path for cutting with a fixed point on tool edge to reduce the transfer of tool edge profile error to the work is also shown. A work with ellipse surface is cut to compare the machining accuracy between 3-axis control machining and cutting with a fixed point on tool edge by 4-axis control machining. The machined surface of work is measured by CNC three-dimensional coordinate measurement equipment and compared with the theoretical shape.
