Abstract: This report clarifies the effects of the inclination angle of the workpiece upon the stress distribution and the frictional coefficient on the interface between the tool rake - face and the veneer in veneer cutting. The main results were : (1) The distributions of the frictional (τ) and normal (σ) stresses on a rake face showed a increasing tendency in both stresses towards the cutting edge. These stresses can be expressed by Eq.(4). Using the values of the coefficients (α_τ, α_σ) in Eq.(4) and exponents (β_F, β_N) in Eq.(3), the variations of these stress distributions with cutting conditions (I, t_n) and workpiece conditions were clarified (Figs. 4 and 5). (2) The frictional coefficient (μ_<max>) was constant within a rake face. It was concluded that μ_<max> changes with the cutting conditions (I, t_n) and the workpiece conditions (Fig. 6).
